There is no snow here yet, but winter has arrived. It has been very cold lately. Bundling up is essential--hat, gloves, scarf--everything! This morning we out on all the layers, and braved the bracing chill and took a walk down to the shoreline. We live but a few minutes walk away from the sea. We enjoy living near the coast and experiencing seaside life through the seasons. Just now is the time of big contrasts, long shadows, sharp, dazzling sky, low sunlight through the bare trees, cold, slate-blue water... but still the seagulls cry and wheel in the sky.

CLEARANCE SALE! Everything's got to go--LOL! At my Etsy shop over half the shop is 1/2 price off...50% off and more savings...everything is on sale! This special sale is now in effect and will be until the New Year!
If anyone is interested in placing an order, and especially if considering ordering items that will be gifts, please place orders by December 1st. December 5th will be my last date for posting orders anywhere to guarantee holiday delivery. And as we are leaving to go away December 15th, I would like to make sure all shop related-business is taken care of before we leave.
The jewelry items shown here are new, made this week, and have just been added... Some extra sparkle for this festive time of year! These will be the last jewelry offerings added to the shop this year.
After the New Year I will be taking a break from shop-making/shop-keeping for a little while, at least for part of the winter. During the winter months I may add a few knitwear pieces and jewelry offerings to the shop. But I will not be creating and listing new items each week as I have been doing for nearly a year and a half since I opened the shop.
With sales generally being down, slower and farther between now, especially given the current state of economy, I feel it is time to reassess the shop, what I'm offering, costs, etc. In a time where we all are being a little careful with our spending, I feel a sense of imbalance in persuading people to spend, when we ourselves are being mindful of our own expenses and spending. I won't be closing the shop, but there may be some changes ahead and fewer offerings. But the high quality, attention to detail, and classic style of Pink Purl will remain!
I look forward to a little break and use the winter to expand my horizons--to recharge the creative batteries, learn some new things, go deeper into techniques, and to do some crafting just for fun. Crafting for charity is something else I've been wanting to do more of for a while now as well. (If anyone has any great crafting charities they are part of, or know of, I'm happy to receive ideas and suggestions!) I have two beautiful scarves in progress... And my first shrug design on the needles too... Very exciting! Sadly there's not going to be enough time to get these in the shop in time for the holidays... But winter is only now beginning here in the northern hemisphere, so cozy-knits-season has just begun! So look for these and more a little later... lots to look forward to ahead!
I love custom orders, so if you would like something special made, please don't hesitate to ask, even if the shop looks a bit quiet in the weeks ahead... I'm always happy to create!
This will be the last big shop announcement for a while. Let me take a moment to thank those of you who have ordered from me throughout this year. It has been a great pleasure! Thank you so much!
So... no more shop talk for a bit... LOL! With Christmas holidays fast approaching, I really need to focus on making ready for that, and our upcoming trip too. This weekend Dear Husband must work. So I will be holed-up in my craft room in an effort to get gifts and cards made. So if I'm not around during the weekend, I'll see you all early next week!
Wishing you good friends a very happy and creative weekend! :o)
Many thanks to all of you for your lovely comments here after the announcement of the arrival of our sweet new niece! We have loved hearing from you all, and so has my family. These are the best days just now, and especially since Thursday when Anya arrived! But I think we're all starting to come down from doing happy dances among the clouds, and feeling pretty tired, now the waiting and anxiety is over... I can only imagine how my poor sister is feeling now post-childbirth... and we feel tired--that's nothing--LOL! But in between it all we've been sneaking in moments of pleasure. Like quiet times with a cup of tea, a sweet treat and something to read. During this past weekend I made up a recipe for Chocolate-Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies. These were soooo good--our new favorite! Dark chocolate chunks, sweet dried cranberries, oats, brown sugar... mmm... The recipe is now In the Kitchen, in the left sidebar. (I made the recipe using grams, so I used a conversion chart for cup measurements. If you make the cookies, tinker with the measurements if you need to.)
Food comforts have been very sustaining lately, as emotions have been all over the place. Another something good has been our now annual making of Jerusalem Artichoke Soup using this recipe. We grow our own Jerusalem artichokes. And the end of September sees us harvesting them. They look a bit strange. They are a tuber, rather like potatoes, but harder, smaller and gnarly. And they cook like potatoes, but have an earthier, nutty flavor. We had a great harvest this year. So I've been making lots of soup and freezing it.
Autumn days are cozy days, and we've been making the most of savoring the flavors and nuances of the season. And all the while the Kozy King, our fur-baby Charlie, has been our sidekick!
It's been a little crazy since mid-week last week, and we're getting our bearings again after all the recent excitement here and coming back down to earth. And with Christmas coming soon, I've been trying somehow to get gifts and cards made and/or bought. This year I'm afraid I'll fall short of my handmade gift quota...*sigh*... There is a trip home to the USA we're preparing for as well... So I've been a bit slow to visiting you all, but will try to fix that and I'll be around during the week. Later in the week here I'll have something new and pretty to share, as well as news regarding my Etsy shop. See you soon! :o)
