Here's the skirt I made last week. The plum/black tweedy fabric was more difficult to work with than I thought it would be. It had a tendency to want to shift in all directions. But I did it! It's not perfect, but it's wearable. The thicker fabric will make it great for wearing in fall/winter months. Now that spring is almost here, I finally got around to making this skirt--LOL! Oh, well...Maybe I can wear it a time or two yet! I've lined the skirt so I can wear it with tights and not "stick" to the tweed. I also bought a length of ultra-suede fringe to finish the skirt's wrap edge and a kilt pin to dress it up. I do like the color and the 1960's flair to it.
This is my first attempt at sewing an item of clothing in 10 plus years. In the early to mid 1990's I tried to make clothing every now and then. I'm a petite person, and finding clothing I really like and that fits me has always been something of a challenge. So I had tried making my own, but became frustrated when patterns did not fit me, and changing them, or trying to get them to fit, didn't always work out. As the years have gone by, my sewing skills in general have improved. This skirt project has given me some confidence to keep trying, and maybe create an item of clothing on occasion. Now that I've gotten the taste again, I'm pattern hunting!
A busy weekend here of odds & ends, errands and things around the house. Hope to get some crafting time in later...
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! Happy Days! :o)
